A non-cooperative game is one in which players are unable to make enforceable contracts outside of those specifically modeled in the game.
Hence, it is not defined as games in which players do not cooperate, but as games in which
any cooperation must be self-enforcing. Games in which players can enforce contracts through outside parties are
termed cooperative games.
