Given its roots in theoretical mathematics, making game theory relevant and accessible to the student is a challenge. Many of the important contributions of game theory to strategic decisionmaking are counterintuitive. The complex mathematics required to prove these key findings is beyond the reach of many students. Textbooks striving to simplify these concepts often present highly stylized examples, which students criticize as being divorced from the real world.

Gametheory.net demonstrates the ubiquity of game theory. An archive of news articles shows how game theory can address questions as diverse as why seat-belt laws increase the rate of accidents, how we can force legislators to reform campaign finance, and why the last egg laid by certain birds is of a different color from the others. Another section incorporates movies and books with related themes, appropriate for classroom diversions or independent study.
